Seward & Kissel Veterans Law Success

April 4, 2018

Seward & Kissel represents a veteran of the United States Marine Corps who served honorably in the Gulf War. Our client was previously granted a substantial amount of back pay based on her diagnosis of severe post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) stemming from her service. When this back pay was awarded, nearly $22,000 was wrongfully withheld and paid to her previous attorney. When this prior counsel returned the fees to the Veterans Administration (VA) and informed them that her intention was to represent the veteran pro bono, the VA withheld the fee and refused to disburse it to our client. After a series of discussions and submissions with the VA, Seward & Kissel associates were able to recover the full amount wrongfully withheld. The veteran plans to use this sum to provide for herself and her son and to further her educational ambitions.
