Samuel F. Thomas is an associate in the Private Clients/Trusts and Estates Group. He received a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A., summa cum laude, from Tulane University, and is currently a part-time student in the LLM in Taxation program at New York University School of Law.
Sam provided research and writing assistance to David E. Stutzman, Counsel to Seward & Kissel LLP, regarding Mr. Stutzman’s co-authorship of the Tax Management Portfolio, Planning for Authors, Musicians, Artists, and Collectors, No. 815-3rd (Estate Planning Series), an interdisciplinary guide to representing art creators and collectors, published in late 2018 by Bloomberg BNA. Sam has also contributed to the 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 editions of the United States Chapter of Legal 500: Private Client Guide, a global guide addressing taxes, succession laws, wills and trusts.
He served as Secretary of the New York City Bar Association’s Estate & Gift Taxation Committee from August 2019 to August 2022, and he was involved in planning the Committee’s numerous continuing legal education programs. Most recently, he has spoken at the Committee’s continuing legal education program on “Estate Planning Misfires of the Rich and Famous 2022.”
