Counsel David E. Stutzman co-chaired and spoke at a continuing legal education program at the New York City Bar Association on “Charitable Donations of Art: Advising the Donor and the Donee.” The program, a unique collaboration among the City Bar’s Estate & Gift Taxation Committee (of which David is Chair), Art Law Committee and Non-Profit Organizations Committee, addressed the multiple considerations involved when a work of art moves from the collection of a donor to that of a nonprofit museum or other charitable institution, including issues of income, gift and estate tax and contractual law and other ethical and practical concerns that a practitioner should consider in properly representing their client.

The program guided practitioners through the life cycle of a charitable contribution of art, from the individual donor to the charitable donee. While focusing on works of art, the program also provided general insights to lawyers representing donors and non-profit organizations on planning for and managing charitable donations.  The online webinar took place on May 12, 2021.
