Senior Bankruptcy Paralegal

Job Description:

The ideal candidate is a senior bankruptcy paralegal and will assist Seward & Kissel attorneys representing creditors, creditors’ committees, debtors, and other constituencies in both out of court restructurings and in large chapter 11 cases. The candidate should have recent bankruptcy experience working in a team environment on chapter 11 and chapter 7 bankruptcy matters, indenture trustee representation experience, as well as other state law insolvency proceedings.

Job Responsibilities:

 Work closely and efficiently with attorneys representing debtors, creditors, and creditors’ committees in large Chapter 11 restructuring cases.

  • Monitor case dockets and circulates case filings.
  • Track deadlines in complex cases for planning purposes.
  • Preparation and filing of petitions, resolutions, first day pleadings, retention applications and supporting documents, schedules and statement of financial affairs, solicitation packages and various motions throughout the case.
  • Assist in analyzing due diligence materials regarding all aspects of a Company’s business operations.
  • Prepare and revise retention applications and supporting schedules and documents.
  • Review and analyze initial conflicts reports to identify any potential conflicts of interest issues which require resolution. Prepare relationship disclosure schedules for Bankruptcy Court retention applications and supplemental relationship disclosure declarations.
  • Preparation and review of legal documents and pleadings. Analyze and summarize legal documents, contracts, and pleadings.
  • Preparation of monthly fee statements, and interim/final fee applications.  Analyze time entries for inclusion in all fee applications.  Maintain fee application summary charts.  Review procedure orders governing service and compliance with U.S. Trustee Guidelines and Local Rules in various districts, including Delaware, New York, and Texas.
  • Coordinate all pleadings filing with local counsel.
  • Perform legal research using various research tools, including the Internet, Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER, and/or other court-related websites for case law, statutes, articles, books, etc.
  • Review and edit documents, exhibits, and charts.
  • Assist in ECF bankruptcy filings.
  • Monitor the Court docket and prepare summaries of same.
  • Prepare proof of claims and objections to proof of claims.
  • Assist attorneys with preparation for hearings, including preparation of hearing binders and other supporting materials.
  • Prepare and respond to interrogatories, requests for document production, answers to complaints and subpoena requests.
  • Provide support and guidance to junior paralegals and other legal staff.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or Paralegal Certificate required.
  • Minimum Ten (10) years paralegal experience as a paralegal or case manager at a law firm working on bankruptcy and commercial litigation matters.
  • Knowledgeable in all aspects of litigation discovery.
  • Extensive knowledge of the United States Bankruptcy Code, Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure, U.S. Trustee Guidelines for Reviewing Applications for Compensation and Reimbursement of Expenses and Local Rules in Delaware, New York, New Jersey, and Texas.
  • Proficiency with PACER and Claims and Noticing Agent websites.
  • Strong research skills and proficiency in using various research tools.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams), Adobe, and Courtlink software.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment, complete challenging tasks and work under pressure meeting deadlines and responding to urgent situations as required.
