Burial of Seward & Kissel’s 125 Year Time Capsule

July 17, 2024

In 2015, Seward & Kissel LLP marked its quasquicentennial (125th anniversary) with a celebration, which included the proposed burial of a time capsule in the plaza in front of the firm’s office building. The firm had to hold off on the actual burying of the time capsule due to planned building renovations.

This week, after being held in a safe at Citibank for 9 years, the firm was finally able to bury the time capsule, which won’t be opened until the firm’s 250th anniversary on September 29, 2140. The time capsule contains a number of interesting items that illustrated the state of the market in 2015, including a BlackBerry, a metro card and a Zagat guide.
